Anyone that knows me knows that I use Linux for almost everything. However, I’ve been using Windows XP for a few hours here, trying to play a game I was having trouble emulating. So I decided to list the annoyances I found:
- On first playing the game, it’s sound got stuck in a loop, fixable by restarting the game. Setting the system for Windows 95 compatibility mode fixed it, but what normal user knows how to do that? So much for backwards compatibility…
- Windows wants to reboot for everything, and the stupid box keeps reminding you and interrupts what you’re working on.
- The network stack must suck. I’m lucky if I get 1MB/s in Windovs. Duplicating the transfer in Linux I get wire speed, 11MB/s.
- Windows doesn’t like to hibernate long-term. It messes up stuff, BAD.
That’s all for now. I’m sure there’s more, but those where what sticks out most.
