Why Windows Sucks

Anyone that knows me knows that I use Linux for almost everything. However, I’ve been using Windows XP for a few hours here, trying to play a game I was having trouble emulating. So I decided to list the annoyances I found:

  1. On first playing the game, it’s sound got stuck in a loop, fixable by restarting the game. Setting the system for Windows 95 compatibility mode fixed it, but what normal user knows how to do that? So much for backwards compatibility…
  2. Windows wants to reboot for everything, and the stupid box keeps reminding you and interrupts what you’re working on.
  3. The network stack must suck. I’m lucky if I get 1MB/s in Windovs. Duplicating the transfer in Linux I get wire speed, 11MB/s.
  4. Windows doesn’t like to hibernate long-term. It messes up stuff, BAD.

That’s all for now. I’m sure there’s more, but those where what sticks out most.
